The academy players had bagged a total of seven medals, including six bronzes and one silver, in the championship.[break] Altogether eight players--four each in senior and junior categories--had contested in the event for a total of 13 gold medals.
Rajkumar Rasaili, silver medalist in the boys´ U-14 section, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000. In the title clash, Rasaili had lost 4-3 to an Indonesian player.
Mallika Thapa, who had bagged a bronze in the girls´ U-18 category as well as in the team event, received Rs 30,000. Likewise, Laxmi Bhatta, a bronze medalist in the women´s 60 kg category and member of the team event, received a purse of Rs 17,500. Manish Thapa, bronze medalist in the boys´ U-12 section, was awarded Rs 12,500. Bimala Thapa, another bronze medalist, also took home Rs 12,500.
The other members of the women´s team--Minadevi Pathak and Anupama Magar--bagged a purse of Rs 5,000 each.
Meanwhile, Dhruba Bikram Malla, Bishan Mote, Balaram Mitra and Minadevi Pathak, the officials of the academy attended a referee seminar conducted by Kobe Osaka International President Tommy Morris during the event.
Mahottari enter semis
The hosts Mahottari district entered the semifinals of the Madhyamanchal Regional Cricket Tournament, organized by District Sports Development Committee, Mahottari, on Monday.
Mahottari defeated Makawanpur by 138 runs at the Mahottari Cricket Ground.
Batting first, the hosts were all out for 216 runs in 39.4 overs. Chandan Jha scored 62 runs while Bindu Mandal struck 48.
Pradeep Sapkota added 44 runs to help his team post a huge total. In reply, Makawanpur were all out for 78 runs in 24 overs. Prem Chhetri (17 runs) was the top scorer for Makawanpur.
Man-of-the-match Gopal Singh took four wickets while Rahul Pratap Singh claimed three wickets for the winners.
NPC lead women´s volleyball
Nepal Police Club (NPC) lead the Sixth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball with 12 points after their fourth consecutive win on Monday. NPC defeated Chandeshwari 25-14, 25-3, 25-8 in straight sets at New Bus Park, Gongabu on the third day of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Tops registered double victories in the day´s other matches. Tops struggled to beat Angel´s Heart 17-25, 25-17, 25-9, 20-25, 15-8 and then secured a 25-23, 25-18, 17-25, 25-13 win over MMC Kaski. In another match, Angel´s Heart battled to a 22-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-23, 15-8 five-set victory over Workers Martyrs Memorial Club.
Meanwhile, defending champions Gyanu Baba School defeated New Diamond 25-11, 25-13, 25-11 in their first match.
Trinity, National lift title
Hosts Trinity and National College won the titles of girls´ and boys´ category respectively in the First Inter College A-level 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on Monday. Trinity thrashed Brihaspati College 16-6 in the final. Most valuable player Angela Regmi scored nine points for the winners.
Meanwhile, National College defeated Trinity 26-16 as most valuable player Sonam Gyalchho scored 15 points for the winners.
Majhi wins gold
Umesh Majhi of Don Bosco School on Monday won gold in the boys´ javelin throw during the First Regional Lion´s Club School-level Sports being held in Biratnagar.
In the girls´ javelin throw, Sarita Karki of SOS School won gold. Prabhas Sah and Nisha Kumari Thakur of Don Bosco won gold in junior chess in the boys´ and girls´ categories, respectively, while Pooja Paudel of SOS won the senior girls´ event.
Pushpa Dhamala of Pokharia School claimed the top spot in the girls´ high jump, while the boys´ high jump was won by Bikram Majhi of Siddhartha School. Delhi Public School won the boys´ volleyball tournament. Meahwhile, Prateek Khadka scored a brace as Don Bosco defeated SOS Itahari 3-0 to secure a place in the final of boy´s football.
Budokai-do Karate from Friday
Chapagaun Budokai-do Dojo is organizing the Fourth Nationwide Open Budokai-do Full Contact Karate Championship on Friday and Saturday at Chapagaun, Lalitpur.
According to Jay Deshar, the chief of the dojo, the championship will feature events in five different categories: men´s 30 kg, 40 kg, 50 kg and open weight categories and women´s open weight category.
Altogether 162 players--22 female and 140 male--from 17 districts across the country will compete in the two-day event. The expected cost of the event is Rs 466,200.
