KATHMANDU, March 28: Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Agni Prasad Sapkota has called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Speaker Sapkota reached PM Oli’s official residence in Baluwatar at around 11AM on Sunday. The meeting lasted for nearly two hours.
Stack of bills stalled in National Assembly
According to Speaker Sapkota’s press advisor, Shreedhar Neupane, Oli and Sapkota discussed a host of issues including crucial bills which are currently under discussion in the House of Representatives. “They also discussed the possible ways to make the current House session effective,” Neupane told Republica over the phone.
Surya Thapa, a press aide to PM Oli, however, said it was a routine meeting between the heads of the executive and parliament. He added that no significant matter was discussed during the meeting.
This was the first meeting between PM Oli and Speaker Sapkota following the reinstatement of the lower house of parliament on February 23. PM Oli, earlier on December 20, had dissolved parliament.
The meeting between Oli and Sapkota comes at a time when PM Oli is accusing the Speaker of not cooperating with the government to push forward the ordinances and bills tabled by the government after the restoration of the HoR.
