FNJ urges Speaker Sapkota to incorporate concerns of stakeholders in Media Council, IT Bills

KATHMANDU, Feb 24: Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has urged the Speaker of House of Representative Agni Prasad Sapkota to incorporate the concerns of stakeholders in the controversial Media Council and Information Technology Bills.

KATHMANDU, Feb 24: Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has urged the Speaker of House of Representative Agni Prasad Sapkota to incorporate the concerns of stakeholders in the controversial Media Council and Information Technology Bills. 


FNJ on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Speaker Sapkota urging him to hold an in-depth discussion with concerned stakeholders before endorsing the controversial bills from the parliament.

According to FNJ Secretary Ramesh Bista, they also suggested the Speaker making the lawmaking process more effective and interactive.


Similarly, Executive President of FNJ Bipul Pokrel stated that the law-making process should have the participation of local bodies. "It should also be inclusive and creative."


Receiving the memorandum, Speaker Sapkota committed to carrying out parliamentary affairs in an interactive and inclusive manner.


He also stated that the bills and the laws can be amended if necessary.


FNJ has also urged parliament members through Speaker Sapkota to amend the Media Council Bill which has threatened freedom of expression.
