KATHMANDU, March 16: SP Sanjay Singh, who spearheaded the investigation into the 61 kg gold smuggling case seized on July 18, has been relieved of his responsibilities.
The Chief of Nuwakot District Police Office had his duties revoked after an inquiry commissioned by the government found flaws in Singh's investigation, as stated in the report submitted by the Commission of Inquiry.

SP Singh was transferred as the Chief of Nuwakot District Police Office following the gold scam investigation. According to sources, Singh was recalled by the police headquarters after the probe commission raised questions about the role of the CIB in the investigation of gold smuggling.
At the time, Singh was leading the investigation into the 61 kg gold case. Alongside him, AIG Kiran Bajracharya, who served as the police chief of CIB, has also been transferred to the police headquarters following a cabinet meeting held on Friday.
Similarly, two DSPs, Durga Dahal and Rugam Kunwar, who were involved in the investigation, have also been transferred from the CIB for further action.
