KATHMANDU, April 10 : Regulator Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) says that it has found a reply sent by Smart Telecom in response to NTA's direction not to be satisfactory. Smart Telecom, which acquired a unified license in 2013, was replying to a direction from NTA to submit its progress report within 15 days.

NTA has asked Smart Telecom to submit its progress report rollout plan within 15 days as it is yet to start service even though it obtained its unified license in 2013.

Smart Telecom provided its plans to NTA on Wednesday. "We had wanted Smart Telecom to send us the details about where, when and how it was planning to begin its GSM services. But it has just sent us the details regarding its existing infrastructure," Achyutananada Mishra, assistant spokesperson of NTA, said, adding that NTA was not satisfied with what Smart Telecom had send.

Smart Telecom has not been able to expand operations due to a dispute in share ownership.

"As we are not satisfied with what Smart has sent us, the reply sent by Smart has been sent to the NTA board. The board will decide on what type of action will be taken against Smart for not doing enough work to begin its services even after two years of having acquired a unified license," Mishra said.

As it has already been two years since Smart acquired the unified license, it has to pay Rs 4 billion as a license renewal fee to NTA.
