Small Madhesi parties busy selecting candidates

KATHMANDU, Sept 27 : Small Madhesi parties have geared up efforts to select candidates for the upcoming polls. The party leaders have said that they will field candidates in more than 100 constituencies.



Speaking to Republica, Sashi Kapoor Miyan, general secretary of Raj Kishore Yadav-led Madhesi People´s Right Forum-Republican (MPRF-R), has said that their party will field candidates in 107 constituencies.



 "We will make our candidates public on Tuesday," said Miyan, adding that their candidates will contest the polls from hill constituencies of Gorkha, Dang, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur. [break]



"We will have only five candidates in the Kathmandu Valley," he said. "Our Chairman Raj Kishore Yadav will contest from the constituency number 6 of Siraha, Senior Leader Raj Lal Yadav from constituency number 2, and I from the constituency number 2 of Parsa," said Miyan.



"Our party strongly stands in the favor of a single Tarai province." He added that the identity-based federal system would be the main agenda of the party.

Pramod Kumar Gupta, general secretary of Sharat Singh Bhandari-led National Madhesh Socialist Party (NMSP), said that they have not yet finalized the names of candidates. "But we are sure about filing candidates from over maximum 125 constituencies."



Gupta further said that their party has already decided the constituencies for the office bearers of the party. "Our Chairman Bhandari will contest from constituency number 6 of Mahottari, Secretary Kausal Kumar Yadav from constituency number 5 of Mahottari, Vice Chairperson Nilam Verma from constituency number 1 of Rauthat and I from constituency number 3 of Bara," added Gupta.



General Secreatry of Tarai Madhesh Sadbhavana Party-Nepal Kaushlendra Sharma has said that their party will file candidacies for 100 constituencies. "We will finalize the list of candidates within two days," said Sharma.



"We have decided about the constituencies for the top leaders of the party. Chairman Mahendra Ray Yadav will contest from constituency number 4 of Sarlahi, I will contest from constituency number 6 of Sarlahi, Vice Chairman Allaudin Ansari from constituency number 4 of Nawalparasi, another General Secretary Ram Kumar Mandal for the constituency number 5 of Siraha."



He added that candidates have also been proposed for the hill constituencies of Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Kathmandu, Kaski, Syangja, Tanhu, Dhading, and Kalikot.

Federal Sadbhavana Party Chairman Anil Jha said that his party will file candidacies for 100 Tarai constituencies. "I will contest from constituency number 1 of Rauthat," said Jha.
