In the latest of such developments, Sanjay Gupta´s Samyukta Jantantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (SJTMM) and Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhawana Party (SP) have announced a merger on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press meet organized at Reporters´ Club Nepal in the capital, Sanjay Gupta said they have merged with the SP for the cause of Madhes. “We have merged with the Sadbhawana Party (SP) to institutionalize the achievements of the Madhes movement,” he said, adding, “The unification will help us take ahead the Madhesi movement.” He also informed that he would head Raksha Bahini, a youth wing of the party. It may be recalled that SJTMM was a Tarai-based armed outfit. [break]
Speaking at the press meet, SP Chairman Rajendra Mahato said that he will seek unification with other Tarai armed outfits as well. “We believe all armed outfits in the Tarai should join open politics,” said Mahato. He also said that unification would help consolidate the party´s strength in all the 75 districts of the country.
Mahato said the Constituent Assembly (CA) election must be held on the scheduled date of November 19. “We don´t have options other than holding polls,” said Mahato, adding, that the demands raised by the Baidya-led CPN (Maoist) are not reasonable.
“The Constituent Assembly polls will be held at any cost and Baidya´s boycott will not affect the polls,” he said.
Asked about the possibility of unification between his party and Mahanth Thakur´s TMDP, Mahato said, “Madhesi people want unification or an alliance between the two parties. We are holding talks toward that end.”
