Six killed in landslips

KATHMANDU, July 20: Six people died in landslips that destroyed houses in Nuwakot and Kaski districts Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.



In Nuwakot, four of the same family died after the house of Arjun Tamang was swept away by landslide Tuesday night at Aldanda village of Najomandal-5. [break]



Among those killed are 25-year-old Tamang, his wife and two sons, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Bal Krishna Thapa. The bodies of Tamang and his 24-year-old wife Thulikanchi have not been recovered. But those of their sons, nine-year-old Santa and seven-year-old Jhilke, have been pulled out of the rubble.



The landslide struck the house at 11 pm and swept it away. The whole family was deep in slumber when tragedy struck.



Police came to know about the incident only on Wednesday morning. Security personnel reached the village at 7:30 pm. The village is located at a distance of 30 kilometers from district headquarters Bidur. Police, soldiers and locals are looking for the bodies of the two still missing.



Meanwhile, landslide buried a house in Prasyang village of Kaski district Tuesday night killing two of a family. A youth was injured.



Police Inspector Sher Bahadur Chand said 27-year-old Sangita Pariyar and her 10-year-old daughter Ritika were killed in the incident. The two were originally from Nirmalpokhari in the same district, but were lining in Prasyang.



Ranjan Pariyar, 20, the son of the house owner, was injured. He is receiving treatment at Charak Hiospital.



The landslide struck at 1 am Wednesday.



The deceased were tenants at the house. Sangita´s husband Ramu works in India.



Bindu Pariyar, a neighbor, said locals dug out the two out immediately after the landslide struck. But they were already dead.



Ranjan, who was in possession of a cell phone, made calls to relatives from under the rubble and sought help. He survived with leg injuries.
