KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has presented evidence claiming that Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane was directly involved in a cooperative scam.
At an open Q&A session in Kathmandu on Thursday, Thapa displayed court documents and check records to back his allegations. “Some friends have asked for proof in the comments. Today, I am presenting it with evidence,” Thapa said. “These are not my allegations—they come from Nepal’s respected Supreme Court division bench and records filed in various district courts.”

Thapa cited court records from Chitwan and Rupandehi, showing that loans worth tens of millions of rupees were disbursed in Lamichhane’s name. While at Gorkha Media Network, Lamichhane allegedly used cooperative funds and authorized payments through checks bearing his signature.
“Chitwan court records show that Rs 110.7 million went into Gorkha Media under Lamichhane’s name, with 414 checks signed by him,” Thapa claimed. He added that Rs 20 million was disbursed as unsecured loans from Butwal Supreme Cooperative under Lamichhane’s personal name.
According to Thapa, the Supreme Court (SC) website shows that Lamichhane participated in board meetings and approved bank accounts even before becoming managing director.
“Although he claimed to have received shares for free, cooperative funds were reportedly used to invest in them,” Thapa said. “Even after his alleged separation from the company, hundreds of checks continued to bear his signature.”
Thapa stressed that all these records are publicly available on the SC website for verification.
