KATHMANDU, July 4: Tata Nano is the most talked about car in the automobile market these days. Billed the cheapest car in the world, Nano has been able to drag a huge attention of the media and general people as well.

The reasonable price for middle class people of developing countries like Nepal and India, striking design and a quality product from a celebrated company like Tata are some of the attractive features of the car. [break]

Sources at Sipradi Trading - the authorized distributor for Tata vehicles in Nepal - said five units of Nano are coming to Nepal in August.

"Those cars will be used for road test from Mechi in the east to Mahakali in the west," a source at Sipradi Trading told myrepublica.com on Sunday.

Tata Motors has selected Nepal as the first international market for Nano. However, commercial sale of Nano will not begin here before 2011.

"The bookings for the cars will probably start at the end of this year. We are getting as much as 20 enquiries a day for Nano. We already have a list of 4,000 persons who are most likely to buy the car," the source added.

The cars coming to Nepal will be shipped from the Gujarat plant of Tata Motors which was inaugurated only a month ago. Tata Motors plans to supply Nano to Nepal once the plant start production up to its full capacity within a few months. The plant has the capacity to produce 250,000 units of Nano every year.

Sipradi Trading has already completed necessary arrangements - like after sales service - to launch Nano in Kathmandu. "Our 100 engineers are soon leaving for India to get trained about the technicalities of Nano. Trainers from Tata Motors are also coming here to impact necessary training to our mechanics," the source informed.

Sipradi officials are also preparing themselves to cope with the rush of customers that is expected with the launch of Nano in the market. However, Sipradi Trading has not fixed the price of Nano in the local market.

"The price of the car can depends on various factors like upcoming budget. We can´t fix the price right now," the source said, adding, "We just want to tell people that the car will cost less than Rs 700,000 for the basic model. The standard and deluxe models will be priced comparatively higher."

The company is also trying to make sure that Nano is not used as a cab. "We will prepare a proper market strategy to refrain Nano from being used as a commercial vehicle," said the source.

The 623 cc car is very powerful as well as economic. As tested in India, the mileage provided by the car is more than 20 km per liters at city drive. Nano is available in six different colors -- Sunshine Yellow, Ivory White, Lunar Silver, Champagne Gold, Summer Blue and Racing Red.

"Nano is not a car, it´s a must have gadget like a watch or cell phone," said the source, mentioning that Nano is drawing enquiries from people who already own a car.
