SINDHUPALCHOWK, Aug 17: Amid a sharp rise in the number of coronavirus cases in adjoining districts, the District Administration Office, Sindhupalchowk, has enforced a weeklong lockdown starting Monday morning.

As per the decision made earlier by the District COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee, the lockdown started at 5AM on Monday.

Local markets have remained closed and public vehicles are barred from plying the road since early morning. People are not allowed to come out of their homes except for emergency purposes. Hotels, restaurants and saloons are completely closed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Seminars, conferences and other types of mega gatherings are strictly prohibited during the lockdown. Financial institutions including banks are allowed to operate between 11AM to 2PM every day.

Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal urged the people to strictly abide by the lockdown orders to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease.

The district has witnessed a fewer number of coronavirus infections as compared to other districts of the country. However, there is a high chance of coronavirus transmission in the district as neighboring districts including Kavrepalanchowk, have witnessed a significant number of COVID-19 cases.
