KATHMANDU, Feb 17: Simrik Airlines announced its commercial launch amid a program here on Sunday.

Speaking at the program, Rameswhar Thapa, executive chairman of Simrik Airlines, said the airline would start scheduled flights to Simara and Bhairahawa soon. “We will be operating flights as per international safety standard,” he added.

Chopper operator Simrik Air, which is promoted by Thapa, had taken over the management of cash-strapped Guna Airlines at the cost of Rs 350 million last month.

Sushi Ghimire, secretary at Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, asked private operators to fulfill their social responsibility. “The focus of private operators is on profit. They should start focusing on rural destinations as well,” Ghimire said.

Prajwal Thapa, sales and marketing manager of Simrik Airlines, said the carrier at present is operating four mountain flights and three flights to Pokhara on daily basis.

The airline is preparing to start two flights a day to Simara and one daily flight to Bhairahawa very soon.
