Simara Airport to be closed by noon for 20 days

BARA, March 9: The Simara Airport has been closed after noon for 20 days from Tuesday for maintenance.



The airport will remain closed after noon as the runway is being expanded. Airport chief Ali Hassan said morning flights won´t be affected though. [break]



The runway is being expanded by two meters on both sides. The eunway is 1192 meters long and 30 meters wide at present. The old runway and sub-way will also be repaired besides adding the apron.



The airport office said the road to airport from Simara bazaar will be repaired and tall trees around the airport will be cut down, so as to make night take offs and landings possible, Hassan said.



Traders expressed happiness at the repair and maintenance as well as measures to make night flights possible. Locals had long been demanding night flights. An agreement to upgrade the airport was reached between Nepal government and Korea´s Landmark Worldwide Company.



At present, Buddha Air and Guna Air make six to ning flights to the airport daily
