KATHMANDU, August 13: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has met Niharika Rajput who is currently undergoing treatment at the TU Teaching Hospital.
Niharika Rajput, a single mother, attempted self-immolation outside the President’s Office in Shital Niwas on Friday demanding justice.
Accused Shrestha to undergo DNA test
Mayor Shah posted a picture on his social media and wrote, “She has only demanded a DNA test of her child. Should a mother be ready to self-immolate just to do this? This is just too much. This is an atrocity. Rule of law should not be like this. The state, which is known as the guardian [of all citizens], should not be like this.”
Mayor Shah’s social media post on Niharika followed shortly after his visit to the TU Teaching Hospital to meet her earlier on Saturday.
Niharika has been accusing Shivaraj Shrestha of Janakpur of drugging and raping her when she was a minor of 17 years. She gave birth to a son following the rape incident.
