KATHMANDU, August 24: Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has directed teachers and employees to renounce their political party affiliation. Mayor Shah in a public notice directed all teachers and employees under the KMC to give up their party affiliation immediately.


Shah has mentioned that the Clause (C) of Sub-Section (2) of Section 14 of the Political Parties Act, 2073 BS clearly stipulates that no political party shall grant membership to the incumbent professors, teachers or employees of institutions owned or controlled by the Nepal government, provincial government or local level.

Similarly, Section 45 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Employee Service Act, 2077 BS states that the teachers and staff are not allowed to join political parties or organizations, engage in political activities or participate in any other political activities. If any teachers or employees are found to be a member of any political party, all those who are aware of such things have been requested to send such information directly to Shah’s email.
