But myrepublica.com found that it is hard to gather admission information from many pre-primary level education centers across Kathmandu as if such information is classified.
Many pre-primary schools don’t give even basic information unless parents pay a personal visit to the schools.
As a journalist, this scribe was denied information on things like fee and facilities that a parent in general would try to know before selecting a particular school. When the first attempt failed, the second attempt by this scribe to get information posing as a parent was not too fruitful either.
The Mother Care International Play Group/Pre School in Baluwatar is one of several such centers that do not give information easily.
“Since this is admission season, we are doing a story about pre-primary schools in the Valley. The story aims to facilitate parents choose school for their kids,” was how this reporter approached the school by telephone.
The response was, “No, we don’t give advertisement!”
When asked about the ‘proper’ way to get information for writing a news story, the lady on the phone said only the principal could give such information. “But the principal has busy schedule for a few days,” the lady added quickly.
Then the reporter approached the school posing as a guardian. “Please visit the school with your ward,” was the answer.
“We don’t entertain phone calls,” she added.
Rupy’s International is another example. The school does not provide information to guardians by phone. Though the receptionist passed the phone call to the Accounts section when asked about the fee structure and the facilities offered to the children, the Accounts handler said it was not possible to give information by telephone.
Similar was the response from Kindergarten Montessori in Satdobato. “No one will tell you on the phone,” came a rude response from a school staff. “Where are you calling from,” she then asked.
When she was told this scribe was calling from Baneshwar, she said the school does not take children from that location.
