KATHMANDU, Oct 4: The Supreme Court (SC) has stayed the government decision to recall Maya Kumari Sharma from the post of Nepali Ambassador to Qatar on Friday.

After holding a preliminary hearing Friday afternoon, a signal bench of Justice Prakash Wasti asked the government not to implement its earlier decision to recall her as well as not to make new appointment on the post until the apex court´s final verdict on the issue.[break]

Earlier on Monday, Sharma had filed a writ petition at the SC against the sacking, claiming that her sack by the government was illegal.

In the writ petition, Sharma had urged that the SC annul the government´s decision, stating that she was relieved of her post without any ground or reason. Sharma had also claimed that she was not even given a chance to furnish clarifications regarding the issue.

The government on last Thursday decided to relieve Sharma in the wake of her dilly-dallying over resignation from the post after Foreign Secretary Arjun Bahadur Thapa and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal suggested to her last week to step down.
