KATHMANDU, Jan 7: The Supreme Court (SC) has sought evidence in the contempt of court case against Gopal Krishna Ghimire, the President of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA). A bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Abdul Aziz Muslim has ordered to submit audio, video, and other materials related to the case.

Earlier, the then SC Deputy Registrar Govinda Ghimire had prepared a petition for contempt before Dashain and submitted it to the Court. However, he later announced his decision to withdraw the petition the day before the Kojagrat Purnima, even though he had already filed it. Currently, Ghimire has been transferred from the SC.

The report was registered after completing the process on October 18. After the first hearing of the contempt petition, which had not been heard for a long time, the bench of Judges Kumar Regmi and Kumar Chudal asked Ghimire to submit a written response within seven days.

After submission, the hearing of the case, which was scheduled to be heard on December 18, was deferred. However, today, an order has been issued to present the evidence.

NBA President Ghimire had commented on the then Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha while raising constitutional questions in the Judicial Council Rules by the NBA on September 27. A defamation petition was filed claiming that Ghimire’s comments would undermine public respect for the court.
