KATHMANDU, June 11: Verdicts are expected today on 15 pending writs and petitions filed against 52 officials appointed to constitutional bodies through an allegedly unconstitutional process. These petitions, which have remained undecided since mid-December 2020, are finally set for resolution.
Among them, four major writs and petitions were filed by advocate Om Prakash Aryal, challenging the ordinance titled "Constitutional Council (Duties, Functions, and Rights) Ordinance" and demanding the annulment of the appointments made under it.

Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi and advocate Kirtinath Sharma have filed two petitions each. Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota, also filed a writ naming the Constitutional Council as the defendant.
Dr Punya Prasad Khatiwada and Deepak Bikram Mishra filed petitions arguing that then-Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana—who was involved in the appointment process and had allegedly obstructed hearings—must be part of the constitutional bench.
In response to one of their petitions, Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal had issued an interim order, which has since received a judicial review from the constitutional bench. A petition by advocate Samrid Kharel is also included in the group of cases being decided together.
