Sarlahi’s Barahathwa tense as hotel owner dies in police firing

SARLAHI, Jan 5: A person was killed in police firing during a clash regarding a hospital in Barahathwa Municipality of Sarlahi.

SARLAHI, Jan 5: A person was killed in police firing during a clash regarding a hospital in Barahathwa Municipality of Sarlahi. After some protestors started vandalizing the house of Kalpana Katuwal,  mayor of Barahathwa Municipality, one person died on the spot after being shot in the head by the police who opened fire to take the situation under control.


The deceased has been identified as Jaishankar Sah, 30, of Barahathwa Municipality-6. According to youth leader of Janamat Party, Rajan Kumar Singh, Sah died on the spot after being shot in the head  near the Nepal Electricity Authority office. He was coming from Batalbas Bazar towards Barahathwa Bazar. Sah, who died in police firing, is the owner of Sarlahi Hotel in Barahathwa.

A five-party coalition including Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Janamat Party, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal and Bahujan Ekata Party have been protesting in front of the Barahathwa  Municipality office for about two weeks. The Barahathwa Bazar area has become very tense now. Clashes are taking place between the police and the demonstrators.
