One shot at in Gongabu police firing

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Police on Tuesday resorted to firing to arrest a suspected criminal in a hotel in Gongabu. A team of police personnel from the Metropolitan Police Range Office (MPRO), Kathmandu, shot Abilash Tamang, 30, of Bansakharka Rural Municipality, Kavre, on his left leg at 5:20 pm on Tuesday, after he allegedly pointed a gun at the police team.

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Police on Tuesday resorted to firing to arrest a suspected criminal in a hotel in Gongabu. A team of police personnel from the Metropolitan Police Range Office (MPRO), Kathmandu, shot Abilash Tamang, 30, of Bansakharka Rural Municipality, Kavre, on his left leg at 5:20 pm on Tuesday, after he allegedly pointed a gun at the police team. 


“Acting on a tip-off from the operator of Hotel Luck Private Limited of Gongabu, the police team had rounded up the hideout of the suspect,” Spokesperson of MPRO, Kathmandu, DSP Hobindra Bogati told Republica, adding, “The hotel operators had suspected that Tamang was carrying weapons.”

Tamang was in possession of a gun loaded with six rounds of bullets when the police team confronted him. Police suspect Tamang might be involved in cases of theft and other crimes where the weapon could have been used. 


“He seems to be from a criminal background,” DSP Bogati said, “We suspect he might be involved in gold theft.” 


Tamang is currently undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, 

Maharajgunj.
