Sankhuwasabha inmates' death case:  15 suspects arrested

KIMATHANGKA, Aug 11: A total of 15 individuals including 10 police personnel have been apprehended for investigation into the suspicious death of two inmates in the District Prison at Khandbari in Sankhuwasabha district.


Binod Tolangi, 19, of Madi Rural Municipality-5 in Sankhuwasabha district and Akash Balami, 28, of Kakani Rural Municipality-7 in Nuwakot district died on Wednesday morning after being severely beaten up.


DSP Birendra Godar at the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha confirmed the death of the inmates in the incident of beating.

According to DSP Godar, the two inmates were trying to escape by cutting the iron bar of the window of the prison on Wednesday. 


The two were held by police at around 1:00 AM on Wednesday. CCTV camera's footages showed that the inmates were beaten up by the security personnel in the prison.


Police launched an investigation taking under control 15 individuals including 10 policemen after the complaint filed by the victims' side, said DSP Godar.


There were altogether 20 security personnel deployed in the prison having 136 inmates including five women.


Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has formed an investigation committee to investigate the inmates' death. A five-member committee led by Spokesperson at the Ministry, Kamal Prasad Pandey, has already reached Sankhuwasabha to proceed with further investigation, it was said.
