KATHMANDU, Jan 2: CMG Club Sankata advanced to the last eight of the Tuborg Hetauda Gold Cup Football Tournament 2073 on Monday after a hard fought 1-0 win over Druk Star Football Club of Bhutan at Forestry Ground in Hetauda.
A lone goal from Anil Gurung in the later stage of the match sealed the capital-based A Division outfit's place in the last eight. Anil's strike from the edge of the box in the 84th minute became sufficient for Sankta to beat Thimpu-based visiting team. Anil was later declared the man-of-the-match.
Sankata coach Sailesh Karmacharya said that his team's participation in two tournaments at the same time in Hetauda and Kakarbhitta put them in difficulty. “We have participated in both tournaments and as a result we are forced to divide players for two tournaments,” he said, adding that the team was planning to add some players to the squad in the next match.
Bhutan coach Kota Namee commented that his side failed to bring five players including two Africans and three national players due to late invitation and visa processing.
Sahara Club of Pokhara and Delhi United of India will vie in the quarterfinal on Tuesday.
