KATHMANDU, Aug 5: Samrakshyak Bhushan Bajracharya and Prerana Koirala became the champions in boys’ and girls’ Under-16 singles categories respectively in the First ANLTA-JTI Junior National Lawn-Tennis Tournament that concluded on Saturday.
They wrapped up the tournament with two gold medals as Samrakshyak had topped the boys’ U-18 while Prerana had secured first place in the girls’ U-14 event held earlier in this same tournament.
Pariyar, Koirala lift singles titles
In the U-16 category final matches played at Satdobato Tennis Court, Samrakshyak saw off Pranav Khanal while Prerana got victory over Saloni Tamang.
In the boys’ final, Samrakshayk and Pranav had won one set each. However Pranav who had won the first set by 6-1, leaving the court before the third set due to injury saw Samrakshyak winning the title. Samrakshyak had won the second set with 6-3.
Similarly, in the girls’ final played at same venue, Prerana registered straight set win with 6-1, 6-3 over Saloni. To win the title of girls’ U-14 category title, Prerana had overcome Saloni Tamang 6-3, 6-3 in the final.
Altogether 72 players took part in the eight-day tournament organized by All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association (ANLTA) in U-8, U-9, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18 in both boys’ and girls’ categories. Earlier Borish Adhikari and Samridhi Maharjan won the gold in boys’ and girls’ singles of the U-8 categories while Ayushman Ghale and Prasamsha Moktan became the champions in boys’ and girls’ singles of the U-9 sections. Prasamsha also won gold in girls’ singles of the U-10 group while boys’ singles gold in same age category was bagged by Arav Samrat Hada.
Likewise in the boys’ and girls’ singles of the U-12 categories, Aryan Giri and Rayana Shah secured first place while in the boys’ and girls’ singles of the U-14 categories Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya and Saloni Tamang became champions. Similarly in the U-18 girls’ singles section, Mayanka Rana secured top finish.
