The award, which carries a purse of $10,000, is presented by The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association to individuals and organizations that contribute in bringing about a positive change in society.
Sanjel has been honored for his selfless attempt at providing quality education to poor children, the association has said. “I have felt increased responsibility after receiving the award. It has also encouraged me to work more,” Sanjel said.
Samata is running schools in 11 districts including Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur providing education to more than 18,000 deprived children. Construction works are carried out to expand schools to five more districts, according to the association. Sanjel has also received several other awards including the National Human Rights Award 2066 given by Insec.
