Talks revolving around writer Prakash Subedi’s Chori-Jwai Bhetna America and the influence of foreign cultures on Nepali citizens. [break]
The discussion started at 2:30pm, inside the warm interior of Nepa-laya’s ‘r’ sala with Manjul, literary critic Dr Taranath Sharma, and Rabindra Mishra.
Dr Taranath Sharma, a well-known critic, started with how his love for the book blooms from his own experience in the UK. He shared his serious yet humorous stories about people in the UK and their ways of pronunciation.
He went on to talk about how, author Subedi has portrayed his experiences in America so vividly and how people in Nepal have started adopting western cultures and discarding their own.
Rabindra Mishra followed Dr Sharma with his experience as a young man in the UK and how at the right moment he made the decision to come back to Nepal.
“A few months later and my kids would have been rooted to America, making it impossible for me to return,” he says.
Kiran Shrestha, from Nepa-laya, says Sahitya Silsila is the first of a long chain of literary discussions ahead. “We wanted to see how well-received this event would be,” he says.
