The Supreme Court on Monday issued an interim order in response to a writ petition filed demanding a stop to giving non-Nepalis the right to vote, but only on the day when voter registration came to a close on Monday.
The press statement further said that SC order related to voter’s registration that made citizenship card mandatory for voter’s registration was an attempt to further sideline the marginalized communities, minority and those who are yet to get citizenship certificates.
“SC’s verdict was fully paradoxical,” said Suman, adding that marginalized communities must be brought in to mainstream for the prosperity of the country. He further claimed that ‘such moves’ were likely to harm the meaningful November poll.
“I am shocked to find that why the state mechanisms don´t want to bring marginalized communities on the track," he said.
He added that the unregistered voters would not get opportunity to choose their representatives.
“Not only their voting right has been violated, they are forced to not participate in the constitution drafting process.”
