KATHMANDU, Feb 20: A meeting of the ruling coalition has started at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar. The meeting is being held in an attempt to forge a consensus among the ruling parties to table the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement in parliament for ratification.

The meeting began at 10 AM as the parliament meeting has been called for 1 PM today. Although the ruling parties were scheduled to hold what they called a ‘decisive meeting’ on Friday, this was postponed till today as demanded by CPN (Unified Socialist)-led by Madhav Kumar Nepal.

A meeting of the Standing Committee of the CPN (Unified Socialist) held on Saturday decided that the MCC should be tabled in the parliament for discussion. The party, however, has maintained that it won’t vote to ratify the agreement until some amendments are brought in the agreement. 

Meanwhile, the CPN (Maoist Center) has decided to quit the government if the MCC agreement is pushed for ratification without bringing amendments in it.
