KATHMANDU, March 9: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has emerged as the largest party under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system in the House of Representatives snap elections held on March 5, securing a sweeping 125 seats out of 165 constituencies.
The Nepali Congress (NC) finished a distant second, winning 18 seats, while the CPN-UML secured nine seats. The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) won eight seats under the FPTP system.

Similarly, the Shram Sanskriti Party (SSP) secured three seats, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) won one seat, and one independent candidate was also elected.
Meanwhile, the RSP is also leading in the proportional representation (PR) vote count. Based on the votes counted so far, the party is expected to secure around 58 PR seats, which would leave it just one seat short of a two-thirds majority in parliament. A total of 184 seats are required to secure a two-thirds majority in the current House.
Based on the PR vote count so far, the NC is expected to secure around 19 seats, while the UML is likely to obtain 16 seats. The NCP is projected to secure nine seats under the PR system.
The SSP and the RPP are also likely to qualify as national parties based on their current vote share as they have crossed the three percent threshold. SSP is expected to secure four seats under PR system, while RPP is likely to obtain four seats.
