The group of 15-20 robbers looted 80 tolas of silver, five tolas of gold and Rs 40,000 in cash from Tara Rawal´s house, two tola of gold and Rs 2,000 in cash from Krishna Datta Bhatta´s house, and nine tolas of gold, Rs 13,000 in cash and two Nokia mobile sets from Rajendra Bohara´s residence at 1 a.m.
Similarly, they made away with 10 tolas of gold, Rs 5,000 in cash from Chandra Dev Sharma´s house and 12 aana gold and Rs 3,000 from Laxmi Devi Sharma´s house, according to sub inspector Dambar Saud at the Area Police Office Malakheti.
The injured -- Binita Sharma, Jamuna Devi Sharma and Tara Rawal -- are being treated at the Padma Hospital in Attariya.
The robbers even tore ears apart to forcefully take away jewelry. "The group of Tharu speaking 15-20 men armed with spears, knives and other sharp weapons broke in forcefully and looted cash and jewelry. They snatched jewelry tearing ears when I refused to give," Binita Sharma said.
The police have yet to make any arrests. There has been a sharp rise in cases of robbery in Dhangadi, Attariya and Malakheti of Kailali and the locals complain of police laxity.
