Dr Lohani also alleged that the current government is a failure on all fronts including in maintaining law and order in the country. [break]
Organizing a press conference at the RJP parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar, he alleged that the three-party alliance of the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML had utterly failed to give momentum to the peace process as they have continued to run into differences on various issues. “The monopoly of the three parties must be ended,” he said.
Dr Lohani pointed out the need to call a meeting of all 25 parties to forge a consensus on all contentious issues relating to the ongoing peace process and constitution drafting. “The current government has failed to draft a new constitution as per the set procedures and methods,” he added.
As per the CA provision, it was originally planned to take the draft of the new constitution among the people for three months before promulgating it on May 28, 2010. However, the CA has failed to draft a new constitution even though there are just 58 days left for doing so.
He also criticized the parties for their failure to constitute the State Restructuring Commission on time as provisioned in the Interim Constitution. “We will raise these issues forcefully in the meeting of the Legislature Parliament, which is set to begin from Sunday,” he said.
When asked to comment about the recent remark by former king Gyanendra that monarchy had not come to an end, Dr Lohani said there was no need for the parties to ´overreact´.
“The former king must admit the reality that the country has already turned into a republic,” he said. “His flying in a Buddha Air plane itself contradicts his remark that the monarchy has not come to an end.”
