NC leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat termed the Bhattarai-led government the ´most corrupt, weak and incompetent government ever in history´.[break]
“The prime minister must tender his resignation on his own, and if he does not do so, the opposition should register a no-confidence motion against him in parliament,” stated Mahat while addressing a program at Reporters´ Club, Nepal on Thursday afternoon, adding, “The government has lost any justification.”
He stated that the present coalition between the UCPN (Maoist) and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) was formed out of party interests rather than in the interest of the people and the nation.
UML leader Shankar Pokharel maintained that the present government has no political grounds left as leaders of the Maoist party themselves are demanding the resignation of the prime minister.
“We the opposition do not need to demand the resignation of the prime minister; rather the Mohan Baidya faction will topple Bhattarai,” Pokharel added.
Co-chairman of Rastriya Janasakti Party Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani stated that the prime minister must take leaders of his party into confidence in order to make headway in the twin tasks of peace process and constitution drafting.
Speaking at the same function, Maoist leader Haribol Gajurel said they doubt that the Baidya faction will obstruct the peace and constitution writing process.
“Why are they demanding the resignation of the prime minister? Do they want to derail the peace and constitution writing process?” asked Gajurel.
He opined that the political parties must not underestimated the achievements made in the peace progress under Bhattarai´s initiative.
