KATHMANDU, July 2: The CPN-UML has demanded the resignation of State Affairs and Good Governance Committee’s Chair Ramhari Khatiwada on moral grounds.
During the meeting of the committee on Wednesday, UML lawmaker and former minister Padam Giri stated that Khatiwada should step down, citing a lack of accountability.
“He has acted irresponsibly by neglecting his duties. From a moral standpoint, he is unfit to continue in this role,” Giri said. “Even the secretary should not remain in this committee in that capacity,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday, the Parliament passed the Federal Civil Service Bill 2080 BS, including the vital provision regarding the “cooling-off period,” as per which bureaucrats or civil servants must wait for at least two years to be eligible for appointments in constitutional and other institutions. However, a controversial sub-clause in the bill nullified the provision for civil servants of secretary and joint secretary levels.
Following the passage of the bill, it has been met with backlash from the leader of opposition parties, including the leaders from the ruling alliance.
