BARA, Dec 16: Vehicular movement along the East-West highway in Nijgadh was obstructed on Saturday after a youth was killed in police firing in Simraungadh municipality of Bara.
Laxmi Mukhiya, 25 of Nansagaradat village, Simraungadh Municipality-1, was shot dead by police on December 13 during a clash between the teachers-employees and the police personnel. The agitating school employees and teachers staged protests demanding their salary on time.
A clash ensued after the Mayor and the Chief Administrative Officer arrived during the protest.
Vehicular movement along Jaya Prithvi Highway resumes
The relatives of the deceased blocked the highway by demanding that the incident be investigated and action taken against the security personnel who were involved in the shooting. They have also demanded the government to provide relief to the families of the deceased.
Also demanding the resignation of Chief Minister of Madhesh and the Mayor of Simraungadh, the agitating protestors burned tires and chanted strong slogans against police and local government officials.
The dead body of Mukhiya is currently in Narayani Hospital in Birgunj. Even after four days of death, the autopsy has not been carried out as relatives have declined to receive the body.
Police have maintained that they were forced to open fire in the air to control the tense situation after the clash.
