KATHMANDU, Aug 22: Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) and Satdobato Youth Club made winning start to the Martyrs Memorial B Division League football played at APF ground in Halchowk, Kathmandu on Monday.
RCT, which is one of the oldest football clubs of the country, overcame Nayabasti Youth Club 2-0 with both goals coming after the break. Similarly, Satdobato eased past Boys Union 3-0 riding on heroics of Ripu Bhulan who netted twice and assisted a goal.
In the early kickoff, Nayabasti failed to convert numerous scoring chances it created. Despite creating few chances, RCT, was relegated to B Division three years ago, got the breakthrough in the 70th minute with an own goal. Nayabasti's attempt for goalline clearance rolled into the net after hitting its goalkeeper. Substitute Soujan Rai ensured the victory for RCT with second goal in the 90th minute.
In another match, Ripu stole the show with twin goals and an assist. He gave a 28th minute lead to Satdobato with a 30-yard scorcher, beating goalie Sagar Raya.
Suman Thapa Magar made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute utilizing Ripu's pass. Ripu then sealed the victory in the 78th minute.
There will be three matches on Tuesday, with Mahabir taking on Bansbari and Tushal locking horns against Pulchowk at Halchowk ground. Meanwhile, Chyasal and Shree Kumari will vie at ANFA ground, Satdobato.
