Rawal pressed over citizenship for Veshawkar

KATHMANDU, April 26: Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA) met Home Minister Bhim Rawal on Sunday and asked him why cricketer Sharad Veshawkar has been denied Nepali citizenship.



Veshawkar had been playing for the country for the last eight years but he has been facing tremendous problems and pressure in the lack of citizenship. Veshawkar is a son of a Nepali mother and a foreign father.[break]



Veshawkar explained to Minister Rawal the efforts the former made in his attempt to get a citizenship certificate. Rawal assured Veshawakar that he his case would be investigated.



NNIPA delegation, headed by its President Deepak Bista, General Secretary Deepak Shrestha and Nepali Cricket Captain Paras Khadka demanded that the government provide citizenship certificate to Veshawkar as soon as possible. The delegation threatened movement if Veshawkar was denied a citizenship.



Sharad has been playing for Nepali team since 2002. Sharad lost his father in 2002 while he was playing U-14 Asia Cup for the country in the UAE. He is one of the major players in Nepali squad. He had important role when Nepal won U-19 Asia Cup in 2003 and 2005 as well as ICC World Cricket League Division 5 last month.
