"There are neither porters nor other means of transporting the supplies," said Chief District Officer Dev Raj Dhakal, who also coordinates the District Natural Disaster Relief Committee (DNDRC).[break]
"It would really help if the quake-hit received supplies before Dashain. But that looks unlikely," he added.
According to Dhakal, food supplies meant for the quake-hit have not reached most of the remote areas of the district due to lack of transportation means.
The DNDRC is seeking to supply seven kilograms of rice to each quake-affected family, but the food relief has not been delivered to the eastern, southern and northern parts of the district, according to Dhakal.
In the meantime, the District Red Cross Society (DRCS) has also not been able to supply relief for lack of transportation means. "The relief material is in a warehouse. There is no means of transportation to deliver them," said Ganesh Adhikari, chairman of DRCS.
According to Adhikari, it will be very difficult to find porters or other means of transport now as the Dashain festival has already begun.
The DRCS had planned to distribute tents, blankets, kitchenware and food to the quake-hit. But supplies meant for most villages remain in the warehouse.
