“There cannot be an understanding to form a chief justice-headed poll government unless we agree to set up a political mechanism,” the UCPN (Maoist) leader said during a program in Reporters Club Nepal in the capital. [break]
Pun argued that the CJ in the new role can’t single-handedly carry out the tasks of conflict management and elections and insisted that there should be a political mechanism, with top leaders from the four major political forces in it.
He was also of the view that the chief justice should not be accepted as government head if new elections do not seem possible before November later this year. Pun said the chief justice’s recent concerns against forming a political mechanism has left the leaders with something to doubt on and added the CJ in his new capacity is actually meant to defuse the crisis, but not to rule the country.
