The agitating professors and stafferes padlocked the registrar´s office the day same day outgoing registrar Rajkumar Thakur´s term expired. They have been demanding appointment of registrar as per the agreement with then vice-chancellor Dr Ram Awatar Yadav on February 14, 2008.[break]
Over a dozen professors have staked claim to the post. However, the agitating professors and staffers have been demanding appointment of senior-most professor Sanjesh Prasad Koirala as registrar. Both the unions had submitted a memorandum to the VC to initiate the appointment process a week ago.
“VC did not pay any attention to our demand,” said Krishna Prasad Pandey, general secretary of the professor´s association. They have argued that appointing a registrar from outside the university would put extra financial burden on the university. The prime minister appoints registrar on the recommendation of the VC of the concerned university. The agitating staffers have also announced further protest programs.
Meanwhile, Student Welfare Council of the university padlocked the dean´s office as well as the office of the Population and Development Faculty at Adarsha Muliple Campus in Biratnagar. The students are demanding appointment of directors and professors in the constituent colleges.
