KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Gandaki Province is found to be the most active province among all the seven provinces. A comparative study of the seven provincial assemblies and their respective governments has shown that Gandaki Province leads other provinces in terms of its activities while Province 5 is the least active province.
Gandaki Province has so far held a total of 69 Provincial Assembly meetings and 25 cabinet meetings while Province 5 has convened only 48 assembly meetings and 12 cabinet meetings so far.
Province 1 has so far convened 67 meetings of its provincial assembly and 25 cabinet meetings, Province 2 has held 49 assembly meetings and 21 cabinet meetings and Province 3 has convened 60 assembly meetings and 20 cabinet meetings.
Likewise, Karnali Province has conducted 56 legislature meetings and 25 cabinet meetings, and Province 7 has convened 54 legislature meetings and 17 cabinet meetings so far.
The elections for the central parliament and seven provinces were held on November 26 and December 7 last year. The constitutional provisions have made it mandatory to hold the Provincial Assembly meetings within 20 days of the final results of votes cast under both categories -- first-past-the-post (FPTP) and proportional representation (PR) -- and appoint chief ministers within 35 days after the announcement of the results in the provinces.
