KATHMANDU, July 29: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the Federal Parliament is set to conduct the hearing of proposed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Man Bahadur Karki today (Wednesday). The committee's 11th meeting is scheduled to begin at 11:15 am.
The recommendation follows the Constitutional Council's decision on July 3 to nominate Karki as Chief Election Commissioner, along with Guru Prasad Wagle and Dr Rajiv Subba as election commissioners.

The committee will hear Karki after completing hearings and reviewing the work plans of the two proposed election commissioners, Wagle and Dr Subba, during Tuesday's meeting.
During Tuesday's hearing, lawmakers urged the nominees to present concrete plans to make the electoral system more transparent, organized, credible, cost-effective and impartial. They also stressed the need to ensure voting rights for Nepalis living abroad.
In response, proposed commissioner Wagle said voting rights could be granted through legislation to Nepali citizens who have not renounced their Nepali citizenship, have not acquired foreign citizenship and do not hold permanent residency in another country.
Meanwhile, proposed commissioner Dr Subba stressed that the Election Commission of Nepal should be transformed into a technology-driven institution capable of ensuring effective election management under a democratic system.
