BUTWAL, Dec 2: Tilottama Municipality of Rupandehi has proposed to construct provincial bus terminal in its 30 bigha of land. The proposed site is located at Tikuligadh between ward 13 and 14.

According to Tilottama's Mayor Bashudev Ghimire, the rapid urbanization and increase in population density has made bus parks of Butwal and Bhairawaha very congested. He said the proposal was submitted realizing the importance of provincial-level bus terminal for the future.

“Traffic will definitely increase in Rupandehi after the construction of International Airport. In order to be prepared for it, we have decided to set forth the proposal to construct a well-facilitated bus terminal here,” Mayor Ghimire added.

The proposed site is within six kilometers from Bhairahawa Airport. The municipality on Saturday held a discussion program among stakeholders to collect feedbacks.

Participating in the program, Minister for Development of Physical Infrastructure, Baijanath Chaudhary, said the provincial government is prepared to hold discussions regarding the proposal.

“There is definitely a need for provincial bus terminal due to close proximity with the Gautam Buddha International Airport and Buddha's birthplace Lumbini,” said Minister Chaudhary. “Provincial Planning Commission conducts studies regarding the construction aspects of the terminal.”

Provincial lawmaker Dahiram Neupane, Bhoj Prasad Shrestha and Tulsi Prasad Chaudhary among others supported the proposal for terminal construction. They said implementation of the plan should not be delayed as the location is very suitable for the project.

Rupandehi's Chief District Officer Udaya Bahadur Rana suggested that all local units and private sectors should be involved in funding the project with mutual understanding.

Participants at the program suggested the municipality to come up with detailed investment model and make a master plan for the terminal's construction. They said the project is viable and even important for development of economy and tourism considering that the international airport is under construction.
