KATHMANDU, April 7: Judicial Council has formed a high-level probe committee to investigate into the alleged faulty verdicts passed by Additional Judge at Kathmandu District Court Khil Nath Regmi.

The move of Judicial Council, which is responsible for taking decisions on appointments, transfers, promotions and disciplinary actions against judges, comes at a time when Nepal Bar Association and Supreme Court have entered into a cold war over corruption within judiciary.

The JC meeting held on Monday decided to form the probe committee under Supreme Court Justice Girish Chandra Lal to investigate over the complaints received against Additional Judge Regmi. The meeting also decided to suspend Regmi until the investigation is over.

Additional Judge Regmi was put under investigation after verdicts he passed while at Lalitpur District Court and Kathmandu District Court three years ago were found to be issued apparently under monetary influence.

Government attorney Regmi was appointed as District Judge on July 7, 2006. He had joined government's judicial service in 1986. This is the first instance of any judge being put under investigation over faulty verdicts under Chief Justice Ram Kumar Prasad Sah's watch.
