Prime Minister Oli congratulates Paudel for becoming world’s youngest cricketer with ODI half century

KATHMANDU, Jan 27: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, on Sunday, congratulated Rohit Kumar Paudel for becoming the world’s youngest cricketer to score an ODI half-century.

"Congratulations Rohit Kumar Paudel for becoming the world’s youngest cricketer to score an ODI half-century. The entire nation is thrilled with this achievement," Oli said on Twitter.

Paudel scored 55 runs during Nepal’s three-match ODI Series against the UAE at the age of 16 years and 146 days, on Saturday.

Rohit hit a 58-ball 55 to become the youngest player with ODI half-century leaving behind Shahid Afridi of Pakistan and Sachin Tendulkar of India in test cricket. The Pakistani legend was 16 years and 217 days young when he smashed a century against Sri Lanka in series where he had made his debut.

Afridi had converted his half-century into a 37-ball 102 which remained as the fasted ODI century for a long time. Likewise, Indian star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar had made 59 runs against Pakistan in test cricket at the age of 16 years and 213 days.
