Prime advances into final

KATHMANDU, July 23: Prime Club reached the final of the Morgan Cup Tenth Men´s and Ninth Women´s National Basketball Tournament on Saturday after Xavier International gave a walkover in women´s round-robin league.



In another match of the women´s category, NASA defeated Happy Children 55-39 to boost its chances for qualifying into the final. NASA has to wait for the outcome of the match between Morgan and Premier to learn its fate. NASA will qualify for the final if Premier defeats Morgan by a huge margin.[break]



NASA took hold of the game from the first quarter with a 20-13 score to make the base for the victory. NASA extended the seven points lead from the first quarter to 18 by the end of second quarter scoring 15-4. Happy Children bounced back in the third quarter for a 10-10 draw and took the fourth period 10-12 but that was not enough for the win.

Fourteen points from Samikshya Neupane helped NASA to stay in the tournament.



In the men´s category, Premier College confirmed its quarterfinal clash with Xavier International after thrashing Cambridge College 96-60 in the match played at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium. Premier had taken five points lead by the end of the first quarter scoring 16-11. With the entry of Sadish Pradhan in the second quarter, Premier scored 30-14 and extended the lead to 21 points. Pradhan netted four three pointers in the second quarter.



In the third quarter, Cambridge tried to make a comeback in the game but could not surpass Premier. Premier took the third quarter 23-19 and the fourth quarter 27-16 to seal the match by a difference of 36 points.



Binod Shrestha, who netted 33 points including six three pointers, and Pradhan with 28 points were the architects in Premier´s victory.



In another match of the men´s category, NASA received a walkover from Kaski. South Siders will face Goldengate and Premier will meet Xavier in the quarterfinals of the men´s category.



RIBS, TIA in quarters



Defending champion RIBS and TIA confirmed their quarterfinal spots in the ongoing 4th PABSON Inter-School Basketball Tournament on Saturday.



RIBS edged past Valley Public 34-31 with 11 points from Janak Lama. In another match TIA thrashed Mount Glory 53-25 as Abhishek Gurung scored 31 points. 



Pennwood overpowered Bhrispati 31-19 while Greenland beat Greenwich 37-28. Kamal Simkhada of Green Land was the highest scorer with 16 points.



With the help of Pema Denial´s 19 points, Wilson Academy defeated Gyan Niketan57-39. In the matches played at the court of Valley Public, Innovative edged past Prithvi 56-55.



Ajay Kunwar was the highest scorer with 16 points. Golden Peak beat North Point 51-42 with 30 points from Rakesh Shrestha.
