The peace marathon was organized by the Madan Bhandari Sports Academy as part of the campaign of taking the peace process to a successful conclusion.
Representatives of social organizations, sportspersons and youths in their thousands participated in the marathon expressing their solidarity to the call for putting to an end violence, killings and shutdowns in the country.
Addressing the function, President Dr Yadav lauded the Academy for initiating the solidarity campaign fulfilling the Nepalis aspirations for peace.
He said the country is at present at a difficult transition and as such we have the responsibility before us of drafting a new Constitution by removing the mutual differences and problems through dialogue and understanding.
President Dr Yadav urged all sides concerned to move forward with the realization of their responsibility of institutionalization of the democratic republic without harboring ill-intention towards anyone.
Chairperson of the Madan Bhandari Sports Academy and Minister for Defense, Bidya Bhandari said the program has been organized with the objective of fulfilling the desire of the Nepalis for lasting peace in the country.
A letter sent by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal wishing for the success of the program was read out on the occasion.
Patron of the Academy and senior leader of the CPN (UML), KP Oli said the year 2010 should be established as the year of peace in the country.
Ministers, CA members, human rights activists, office-bearers of professional organizations, intellectuals, journalists and youths attended the function.
The Kathmandu Peace Marathon will begin from Dasrath Stadium and conclude at Basantapur after passing through various places in the city.
