Prez inaugurating election education center today

KATHMANDU, May 24: President Ram Baran Yadav is inaugurating Electoral Education and Information Center at the Election Commission on Thursday.



Established with the support of United Nations Development Program and the Australian Aid, the center aims to educate Nepali citizens and voters about election and voting activities. [break]



The center has been modeled in line with the Australian Electoral Commission in Canberra Australia. The center comprises of an education center, a library, a research center and a training center. "It will help to educate Nepalese people about electoral process," said Tom Rogers, deputy electoral commissioner of the Australian Electoral Commission.



Tom and Bronwen Shelley, director for International Services at the Australian Electoral Commission, are currently in Nepal to take part in the inauguration and sign a memorandum of understanding with the Election Commission of Nepal.



Under the MoU, the Australian Electoral Commission will help to enhance the capability of staffs at the Nepalese Election Commission. Also, the staffs of the election commissions of the two countries will share experiences under exchange programs over the next three years.
