KATHMANDU, Feb 15: The voter education program for the House of Representatives election is being launched across the country from today.
In line with the Election Education and Voter Education Directive, 2021, the Election Commission has approved a special voter education program starting today for the House of Representatives election. The program is being implemented accordingly.
The Commission said the program aims to inform citizens about the importance of voting rights and the voting process.
EC Starts Voter education from today
The nationwide program, which began today, will run until March 1 in all 6,743 wards of the country’s 753 local levels. One voter education volunteer will be deployed in each ward.
According to the Commission, the mobilized volunteers will reach voters in their communities and at their doorsteps, using sample ballot papers to explain the importance of elections and the voting procedure.
The Commission believes effective voter education will help increase voter participation and reduce the proportion of invalid votes.
Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the Commission has requested support, coordination, and facilitation from all seven provincial governments, local levels, political parties contesting the election, candidates, the media sector, and all concerned stakeholders.
