Press vehicle set on fire

BANEPA, April 13: Activists of the CPN Maoist (Revolutionary), a little known party, on Saturday vandalized a press vehicle alleging that the newspaper did not carry news about their party.



The activists had taken the jeep (Ba 9 Cha 6658), which was delivering the Kantipur daily, under their control from Palanse, Bhaktapur and set it on fire at Dhulikhel-1 after dousing it with kerosene. [break]



“The group of five men asked for a lift saying that their vehicle had broken down. They snatched our mobile phones and forced us to drive them wherever they wanted,” said Lilabahadur Thapa, driver of the vandalized vehicle.



The men had also attempted to vandalize the delivery vehicles of Nagarik, Rajadhani, Annapurna Post and Samacharpatra dailies headed for Kavre from Kathmandu.



“The fire has destroyed the jeep completely as well as 2,500 copies of the newspaper,” informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Krishnaji Adhikari.



Issuing a press statement, the party accused big media house of not carrying news about the party´s demonstrations in five main cities across the country two weeks ago as well as a nationwide strike called last week.
