TU rector's vehicle set on fire

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: A vehicle used by Tribhuvan University (TU) rector Sudha Tripathi was set on fire by unidentified persons in Lalitpur on Monday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: A vehicle used by Tribhuvan University (TU) rector Sudha Tripathi was set on fire by unidentified persons in Lalitpur on Monday.



Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur is yet to identify the two individuals who set fire on the vehicle near the UN Park at Kupandole.



According to DSP Ishwor Karki of the police range, the two persons forced Tripathi and her driver out of the car with registration number Ba 2 Cha 5630 and set it on fire. 



"Two individuals stopped her car and forced her as well as her driver out before setting it on fire," said Karki about the incident. 



Tripathi has been assigned the role of coordinator of the election committee formed to hold the election of the Free Students Union, which will take place on February 25.  



"According to Tripathi, she is totally unaware about the persons who attacked her car. She has not named any suspect as well," said DSP Karki. "We are carrying out investigation and have circulated the sketch of the individuals as per the description provided by Tripathi and other witnesses," he added.



TU has expressed serious concern about the attack and has demanded investigation into the case. 



"We have requested the police to carry out investigation over this attack," said Bhola Dhakal, spokesperson of TU.



Nepal Student Union has expressed serious concern over the incident and has demanded proper investigation. It has also urged strong action against the attackers through a statement.
